congratulations on your up coming birthday.
thanks for documenting all your experiments.

Lets compare a 4-pole PM-generator with a 34-pole PM-generator and turn them with a rotational speed for which the frequency is 50 Hz for both. For a 4-pole machine this 1500 rpm and for a 34-pole machine this is 176.5 rpm. I have measured a 4-pole PM-...

i don't believe its been discussed here yet.

you will need to deal with 200-300 volt dc bus voltage. so if you want to hook it up to a battery bank, you'll need to live dangerously.

Commonly used RF surge protector, 7ns turn on time http://www.polyphaser.com/products/rf-surge-protection/is-b50hn-c0 I have a bunch of Polyphaser stuff in my station... They are affordable and fast enough to protect the radios from all but worst case(...

Its also a function of the resistance of the copper windings. if the wires had no resistance, the motor would be effortless to turn, the magnetic flux would just be reflected by the coils into the air gap. so as the motor becomes larger, and proportion...

how much shaft hp are you expecting to get?

at 900 rpm a motor conversion would make a lot more sense. also don't throw out winding a synchronous motor from an induction motor. if you can find an angle grinder you can cut the slots in the core needed t...

Has anyone hacked or examined schematics for Inverter/Generator?

Thu, 01/05/2017 - 13:38
I have only seen block diagrams for I/G units, but have to ask, are the modules separate enough that you could add batteries, capacitors, and solar or wind in the middle to augment/replace the generator and/or charge batteries with the setup.

I'm aski...

10 poles works with 12 teeth quite well.

Proper Copper Shopper (so I don't come a cropper)

Hi folks
I'm about to splurge on some copper wire and looking for some advice before I order.
The plan is to run a small engine on methane to turn the dual-rotor, 12 pole 9 coil PMA at something like 900 rpm.
Magnets are N52 50*25*10mm, and sketched...

Tried to watch the video, but, with wife watching TV, talking on the phone and asking me questions, I had to give up.    Have it bookmarked for later viewing under different circumstances.  Thanks for the link, joestue.

Note: 10-pole PM-generator available

Today I have added the 2-pages note: "10-pole PM-generator" to my website: www.kdwindturbines.nl at the bottom of the list KD-reports. Recently I visited a local company in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for a PUM-mission. One has shown me a 10-pole armature ...

I've seen some pretty cool stuff made with heat shaped PVC, but I'd be worried about people inhaling those fumes.
Would be interesting to give some of those a try tho.

Probably much handier and simpler to take vinyl, PVC, or FRC wall panels and shape them with a heat gun.  Much cheaper material.  Lightweight.  Easy to duplicate.

I have measured several 4-pole PM-generators for short-circuit and you see that the torque is rising very fast at low rpm, then it has a maximum at about 400 rpm and then it slowly goes down at increasing rpm (see KD 78 figure 4). The whole Q-n curve s...

far as I know, to get the most holding torque you need to short out these high pole count motors through a resistor equal to its internal impedance; otherwise they won't slow down the turbine.

my 30 pole motor had a 8.5 amp short circuit current, 97 v...

my guess is those detectors would be wired up to a pre-ionizer hv circuits to protect the front end of radios and radar type circuitry with gas tubes.

Can you design the circuit to act in 5ms or less? And will that mosfet hold up to hundreds of amps surge?

Agreed.  In this case it appears that MPPT is just a brand name, for lack of a better term. "That's just what we call it, that doesn't mean it is multi power point tracking". LOL
